Consultation on proposed increase to the Pupil Admission Number at East Sussex Academy

Consultation on proposed increase to the Pupil Admission Number at East Sussex Academy

East Sussex Academy is proposing to make a significant change application to the Department for Education (DfE) regarding the number of pupils we have on roll at our school.

As part of this process, we are launching a three-week consultation to gather views from parents, carers, staff, governors, local authorities, community members and all other interested stakeholders. The feedback we receive will be shared with the DfE to help inform its decision.

Our proposal:

We are proposing to increase the Published Admission Number (PAN) of East Sussex Academy from 140 places to 220 places across the three sites.

Reasons for the proposed change:

  • East Sussex has experienced a significant increase in the number of pupils requiring alternative provision, resulting in sustained pressure on existing capacity across the county.
  • The current PAN of 140 places is no longer sufficient to meet demand. Without additional capacity, there is a risk that some vulnerable children and young people could face delays in accessing suitable education provision following exclusion or periods out of school
  • The proposed increase to 220 places would enable East Sussex Academy to meet current and anticipated future demand, ensuring that pupils continue to receive timely access to high-quality education, support and intervention.

Consultation period:

The consultation will run for three weeks, from Monday 2 November to Sunday 22nd November.

During this period, we invite all stakeholders to share their feedback.

You can share your views in the following ways:

Next steps:

Once the consultation has closed, we will review all feedback and publish a summary of the consultation outcomes on our website.

Thank you for taking the time to share your views and support the continued development of East Sussex Academy
